Theatre Design

Set Design, Props & Stage Crew
Storytelling with visual elements is the essence of theatre design, whether in stage and set design, lighting or props and costumes. Evoking moods and atmospheres that convey elements of the script, lyrics, narrative or characters is an essential part of designing for stage, while creating an emotional response in the audience is Penelope's driving passion in scenic design. Whimsy, fantasy and beauty, where no detail is overlooked, are hallmarks of her style.

'Designing is an adventure of discovery, where, if you combine a love of learning with an attitude of curiosity and inquisitiveness, you will discover what will best visually portray the story being told. Powerful emotions, sweeping narrative, and a score than can transport you from velvet seat to any time, place and circumstance, escort the audience on their adventure. I like my designs to do the same. So it is with this in mind that I design stagecraft elements, wishing to magnify this captivating experience and delight the imagination.'

Penelope works in design, props and stage crew primarily for musical theatre, opera, ballet and plays, but welcomes proposals from other genres of the performing arts. Please use the contact form for enquiries.

Its no simple task to balance welcoming and hosting dignitaries and celebrities, to liaise closely with security and the media, to co-ordinate private interval cocktail parties, and still get the show in and running on time!  Of course, there are many occasions when regular visitors, subscribers and families are our unofficial but belovèd VIPs for the night and spending time with them, hearing their stories of theatre shows from their youth, or discovering that tonight was a little girl's first visit to the ballet, are the real pleasures and magic moments of theatre hosting.
